Italian winners for StartUp Europe Awards
StartUp Europe Awards 2017is an international competition promoted by the European Commission and Finnova Foundation to stimulate open innovation and collaboration between the different actors of the European ecosystem through public-private partnerships in support of the entrepreneurs.
The prize-giving ceremony of the startup winners of this year’s edition took place on December 12th, organized by Starboost Srl, Company Creator, where the CEO and Co-founder, Mattia Conte, represents Italy as Country Manager for SEUA17, in partnership with CNA Young Entrepreneurs.
A national jury of experts in the field assessed more than 60 applications from all over Italy, according to criteria such as degree of innovation, sustainability of the business model and team composition, and have selected the winning startups, each for own category.
During the evening, startups presented their businesses with a pitch and videos. The event was attended by Marco Zanni, Member of the European Parliament, who has connected from Brussels by a video call, Daniele Alberti, Eleonora Rocca, marketing manager CEO & Founder of Mashable Social Media. Day Italy and Digital Innovation Days, Adriano Travaglia, lawyer, startupper, manager, Founding Solomon & Travaglia, President of the European Start Up Association and Giovanni Caponetto on behalf of the European Commission, also Chiara Appendino, Mayor of Turin.
The Italian winners are:
Agricolus in Agritech category, their aims is to support farmers, agronomists and other operators in the agricultural world optimising agronomic practices, integrating expertise and the latest technologies data collection and analysis.
In Fintech category, Helperbit, is the winner. Helperbit uses blockchain to bring transparency in the charitable and insurance sector. The platform allows tracking of donations up to final beneficiary and to subscribe to a mutual plan against disasters.
HotBox, for the Gastronomy category. Hotbox solves the problem of cold and rubbery pizza to home thanks to the use of excess heat from the scooter and the de-umming system which allows you to keep the pizza hot and crisp until you get home.
Italian Artisan, for the Fashion category, a B2B marketplace of Made in Italy fashion that connects the best craftsmen specialized in the manufacture of footwear, accessories and clothing with designers and international retailers.
Leevia, is the winner in the Creative category. They are the first Italian platform to create online contests legal proceedings in just a few clicks. Provides services to companies and communication agencies to involve the community, collect qualified leads and create brand awareness.
Mobygis, is the winner for the Water category. Thanks to a combination of ground, satellite and model data mathematical, provides for the availability of water resources in the territory in the form of snow and water, to tourism, civil protection and hydropower industry.
Nextome, for the Cybersecurity category. Nextome is a patented software system navigation and localisation operating in closed environments (where the signal GPS is not present), technology compatible with traditional smartphones, easy to install.
Planet Idea, for the Smart City category, is the first Competence Center that transforms the large Real Estate real estate interventions in smart projects.
Tommi, for the E-Health category. They are a virtual reality game developed to reduce anxiety and pain in the children with cancer and their caregivers, collecting data useful for doctors to monitor cancer patients and their caregivers patients during therapy.
Tutored, by Edtech category, a social platform where students improve their lives from preparing the exams for the first job opportunities.
Cubbit, for the Iot category, the first data center operating without proprietary servers users connect your storage and get the first unlimited Free Cloud service.
Marshmallow, for the Social Innovation category. Marshmallow Games creates educational apps that stimulate learning by mixing content Editorials and game.
Winning startups can be selected by SEUA to access the benefits and opportunities offered by part of European institutions, businesses, public bodies and other entrepreneurship stakeholders, for develop and promote their business.
They will have the opportunity to take part in the final to be held in Brussels in 2018.

Brussels, 8th of June, 2017. The StartUp Europe Awards initiative, promoted by the European Commission, supported by the President of the Committee of the Regions and implemented by the StartUp Europe Accelerator by Finnova Foundation, have recognised for the first time in a collaborative and inter-European way the best startups in Europe in 10 categories, in the so-called “Eurovision for startups”. The President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, opened the final ceremony of StartUp Europe Awards 2016. “We should cultivate good ideas and help them to grow. We need to invest more in digital technologies and create a genuine European single market where our young companies can develop”, assured Tajani.
StartUp Europe Awards presents a prize methodology for startups at local, regional and national level, fostering the open innovation and the collaboration between the different actors of the European ecosystems, through the private-public partnership to support entrepreneurs. “Besides, it creates a network of contacts that will allow to inspire and give visibility to all the local startups so that, by using this network, they can scale their services and products at a global level”, has stated JuanmaRevuelta, the Director of Finnova’sStartup Europe Accelerator.
The European winners of StartUp Europe Awards 2016 according to the 10 categories are:Robocamp (Creative Category), Tespack (Energy), INZMO(Fintech), Windcity (Green), NeuronGuard (Health), VyzVoice (ICT), CityCrop (Smart Cities), TempBuddy (Social), Waynabox (Tourism) and APSU(Water). Ekuore (Health), Human Surge (Social) and APATEQ (Water) have received the Extraordinary Awards, a special prize created to recognise the effort of those startups whose score was very high and got very close to the final recognition.
The startupAudified Reality from Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) won the “Best European Neighbour StartUp Europe Award”.
Waynabox received a European acceleration ticket of 10,000 € from Amadeus Company, to continue their internationalization in 2018, delivered by Elizabeth Aston, Senior Adviser, Industry Affairs. “Amadeus continually invests in innovation with a total bugdet of over 4 billion during the last 10 years. Innovation is about doing things differently – having a different business model, a different approach to customer service and this is what Waynabox does” stated Aston.
The startup APSU also received a European acceleration ticket of 10.000 € for presenting their project to different European calls as LIFE or EUROSTARS. The award has been delivered by Rafael Páez Santana, Counsellor of innovation and Employment from the Cabildo de Fuerteventura.
The Commissioner of Investigation, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas, delivered the award of ICT Category to VyzVoice. “I want to create the kind of environment where the entrepreneurial spirit can flourish […] Entrepreneurs are the stars, we’re there to help and support them”, said Moedas in his motivational speech.
The Vice-President for Communication of the European Economic and Social Committee, Gonçalo Lobo Xavier, who handedin the award for Fintech and Tourism categories, considers “StartUp Europe Awards a very interesting way to promote entrepreneurship and the quality of the work developed in Europe. We have very good examples of solutions that can change peoples’ lives for the better and this is a huge achievement when we talk about innovation, science and entrepreneurship: to address the citizens!”
StartUp Europe Awards delivered the recognition to the “Best Public Administration for the Startups”, a pioneering prize which aims to recognise the best programmes or public services supporting entrepreneurs and innovation in municipality, province and region categories. The winner in Municipality category is Lisbon City Council; in the province category is Consorcio Zona Franca de Vigo and in the Region category is Central Denmark Region.
These awards were delivered by the first Vice-President of the Committee of the Regions, Karl-Heinz Lambertzwho stated “the European Committee of the Regions encourages cities and regions to implement entrepreneurship-friendly policies through our European Entrepreneurial Region (EER) initiative. We actively promote and support efforts to create smarter EU cities and regions”.
The president of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani,delivered the award “Best Media Partner” to the TV Program Emprende of Spanish Television (RTVE)for their commitment to the dissemination of the entrepreneurship and the startups.
Finally, the Ambassador of Spain in Belgium, Cecilia Yuste, handed in the award to Jesús Brotons “Brainiac Beats”, winner of the Music Contest Award, for creating the music for StartUp Europe Awards, representing the values of union, community and entrepreneurship.
The winners of StartUp Europe Awards will obtain great visibility all around Europe thanks to the Media Partner Alliance of StartUp Europe Awards formed by 21 media members. The startups will also have access to a programme of mentoring (information in internationalization, European funds like SMEs Instrument of 50.000 € to 2, 5 million € of non-refundable subsidy, international communication, legal barriers to innovation, etc.), through the StartUp Europe Accelerator of Finnova Foundation, which will allow them to boost their projects and to make them more viable worldwide.
StartUp Europe Accelerator is the unique accelerator specialized in European opportunities funding, which helps the entrepreneurs to internationalize their business through European projects.
Thanks to the initiative StartUp Europe Awards, the winningstartups will be able to participate in business missions focused in internationalization in India, Africa, LATAM and Silicon Valley.
To close the ceremony, the president of the organisation “Mind the Bridge”, Alberto Onetti, presented the last report of “Scaleup Europe” by Startup Europe Partnership (SEP). This report includes new data about Scaleups and capital raised in Europe, plus a comparison among regions, countries and sectors. The maturity of the EU scene, the potential impact of Brexit, and recent growth ends the report, along with a survey of the largest verticals present in Scale-up Europe, and which countries these verticals are most represented in.

The StartUp Europe Awards 2016 Final ceremony will be chaired and hosted by the President of the European Parliament, Mr. Antonio Tajani. The aim of the event is to reward the 10 most outstanding startups coming from 14 national competitions that have taken place in 2016 across Europe, announcing 1 winner for each category in competition: Creative, Energy, Fintech, Green, Health, ICT’s, Smart Cities, Social, Tourism and Water.
#SEUA16 will also deliver two special recognition: “Best Public Administration for startups Award”, for recognising the effort of the best public administration in supporting entrepreneurial activity and innovation at a city, province or region level. Startup Europe Awards will be announced today in 10 categories: Creative, Energy, Fintech, Green, Health, ICT’s, Smart Cities, Social, Tourism and Water. The event is supported and promoted by the European Commission to improve the ecosystem for startups and scaleups in Europe.
The best startups from Europe will be announced after having been recognised in 14 national competitions that took place in 2016 across Europe. The ceremony will take place at the European Parliament. The awards will be handed over by Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament, Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner in charge of Research, Science and Innovation and Gonçalo Lobo Xavier, First Vice-President of the Committee of Regions.

Open call for Creative StartUp Europe Awards 2017
Creative StartUp Europe Awards is looking for partners at local, county, regional and national level
Madrid, 27th March. The call for country and local organisers of Creative StartUp Europe Awards 2017 was launched today in Madrid at the European meeting “How to start me up. Building my creative hub” organised and hostedby Factoria Cultural and supported by the European Creative Hubs Network funded under the Creative Europe Cross-sectoral strand. The project set up a Europe-wide network of creative hubs for cultural and creative professionals and entrepreneurs. The ECHN Skills Workshop is the first one in a series of three workshops which aim to build the professional capacity of creative hub leaders by developing tailored support and skills development tools.
Duringthe meeting “How to start me up. Building my creative hub”, the CEO of Finnova Foundation and the StartUp Europe Accelerator, Juan Manuel Revuelta invited the creative community to participate in the Creative StartUp Europe Awards 2017 through the StartUp Europe Awards Alliance. The aim of this award is to recognize the best startups working on cultural and creative projects in its broadest sense (visual arts, architecture, audio-visuals, literature, music, design and fashion), taking into consideration the originality of the project and its subsequent implementation. Moreover, the projects must pursue a transnational geographical dimension, successfully reaching a European or even global dimension.
The open call is to organise an awardat local, county, regional or national level to recognize these creative startups in their countries. The call is also open to Creative Media Partners, who could provide visibility and follow the progress of the participants and for Creative Ambassadors to Members of the European Parliament who could provide institutional support and invite a group of creative startups to visit EU institutions. Regarding this support, European Parliament presented a resolution on coherent EU policy for cultural and creative industries on December 2016.
The first edition of StartUp Europe Awards in the Creative category awarded thesestartups at national level: Terrible Creations (Croatia) Truzees (Ireland) Audified Reality (Macedonia), Yeba Essentials (Belgium), Convert Art (Greece), Komilibro (Spain), DIS (Italy), Mozello (Latvia), RoboCamp (Poland) and SprayPrinter (Estonia).

Six winning startups to represent Latvia in final of StartUp Europe Awards
Under the frame of TechChill conference in Riga, SEUA16 Latvia has announced the six winners of their national StartUp Europe Awards 2016. The national Final Ceremony in Latvia, organised by the country manager “Latvian Association of Public Relations Professionals (LASAP)” has been last out of 13 events awarding best startups of 2016 in Europe which will now compete in the European Final in Brussels next spring.
National jury evaluated the performance of the previous year on the basis of the applications received, as well as in a wider context, on the basis of their expert-level knowledge of the Latvian startup industry as a whole.
Mrs IneseVaidere, MEP from Latvia and ambassador for StartUp Europe Awards, delivered the diplomas to the winning startups. The role of the ambassador in this competition is to support local startups and entrepreneurs. “Latvia is not a country with inexhaustible natural resources, but we are smart and educated people who are able to create products with high added value. Latvia clearly has the potential to become a centre in Europe, offering a stimulating and supportive environment in which businesses grow and thrive” – saidMrs IneseVaidere.

Anatomy Text is augmented reality, web based software for medical education and healthcare professionals, and the winner for HEALTH Category.
The winner in ICT Category is Notakey, a smartphone based solution for strong & smooth authentication and authorisation.
Finally, Rention a Property Management Platform that helps you overview and control all your estate from A to Z, is the winner in the Smart Cities Category.
“Latvian Association of Public Relations Professionals (LASAP)” decided award a special prize for achievements in public relations to 4SmartStreets.
SEUA also applauds efforts of media in supporting development of startup ecosystem in Latvia by awarding three media outlets – Labs of Latvia, LSM.lv and technology blog Kursors.lv who during the past year drawn particular attention to Latvian entrepreneurial activities by promoting creative tech ideas to broad Latvian audience.

One of the most comprehensive reports regarding the current state of the tech scene in Europe will be presented in an event hosted and organised by the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) on January 31st.
An excellent opportunity to highlight the importance of evidence based policy making on startups policythat will benefit the European institutions work towards startups with validated data.
Commissioned and produced by Atomico, a European-based global venture capital firm, in partnership with Slush, the organisers of the Slush technology conference in Helsinki, Finland, the report outlines three key trends underlying the growing influence and success of the European technology industry:
- Deep tech is thriving and diversifying in Europe: 2016 was a bumper year with $88B in deep tech M&A; more US and Asian tech giants buying up European deep tech companies and tapping into a growing deep tech talent pool.
- New tech hubs are emerging across Europe beyond the existing order of London, Berlin, and Stockholm. The report suggests that Munich, Zurich, Lisbon, Madrid, and Copenhagen will be ones to watch over the coming years. Paris is starting to seriously challenge London and Berlin in number of VC-financed deals and deal volume.
- Traditional industries are awakening to tech: two thirds of Europe’s largest corporates by market cap have made a direct investment in tech companies while one third has acquired a tech company since the beginning of 2015.
This is the second year in a row that Slush and Atomico have produced their data-driven look inside the European tech ecosystem, with this year’s report including data from LinkedIn, Meetup, Stack Overflow, Dealroom.co, and the London Stock Exchange.
The presentation of the report “State of European Tech – The future is invented in Europe” is hosted and organised by the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) leading think tank and forum for debate on EU affairs, with the support of Finnova Foundation and StartUp Europe (DG CONNECT), under the frame of StartUp Europe Awards.
StartUp Europe Awards (www.startupeuropeawards.com) is promoted by the European Commission and supported by the President of the Committee of the Regions, several members of the European Parliament as Ambassadors and it is implemented by Finnova Foundation in collaboration with Startup Europe.

Poland has chosen 9 winning startups for European final of StartUp Europe Awards!
Poland has chosen nine startups for the European final of StartUp Europe Awards!
Under the frame of Startup Poland Global, an educational program for Polish startups and scaleups helping them work on global expansion strategies, were chosen the nine startups which will represent Poland in Brussels, for the final of StartUp Europe Awards. This program selected 50 high potential startups that participated in three-day intensive course where they improved their pitches, listened to serial entrepreneurs’ stories of success and failure, and acquired legal and business background on moving operations abroad. During the pitching finals, the jury of venture capitalists and entrepreneurs rated startups performance on stage.
They selected the winners that will receive a tailored workshop on building global strategies and scaling, at the end of January 2017, and will go to the final of SEUA.
Startup Poland Global is enabled by the United Way Worldwide and funded by Citi Foundation.

In the ICT Category the winner is DeepDoc; a project aimed at early detection of risk of depression using machine learning to analyze activity in social media, they diagnose the risk of depression at a very early stage.
Jumbster, the winner in TOURISM Category, is an application to save on fuel; with this app you are able to find and buy the cheapest fuel in your area.
In the HEALTH Category was selected Pelvifly, a comprehensive, mobile system of prophylaxis and rehabilitation of pelvic floor muscles dysfunction.
Piece of cake provides the opportunity to easy splitting your bills for your friends, workmates and in every place, where you just need divide the bill. This startup will represent Poland for FINTECH Category.
Ronzo is aimed to empower consumers with delicious cricket-based products with natural ingredients, no artificial chemical substances or semi-processed products; and it is the winner for the GREEN Category.
Smartbox, wich creates a comprehensive Smarthouse system based on cloud computing, was chosen as the winner for ENERGY Category.
The winner for SOCIAL Category is Socialgamer, a search engine in the computer gaming industry focused on the rapid and precise searching for partners to create the perfect team.
Sense produces wireless, mobile and intelligent sensors and designs measuring systems. Sense was chosen to represent Poland in the CITIES Category.
For the CREATIVE Category the winner is RoboCamp, which enhances STEM education using LEGO robot building and visual programming.
Startup Europe Awards recognizes the effort of the European startups in five levels (local, county, regional, national and European) in ten categories: Creative, Energy, Fintech, Green, Health, ICT, Smart Cities, Social, Tourism and Water. Each involved country will recognize the best local startups which will have the chance to compete to be awarded as the best European startups, in the Final ceremony to be held first quarter of 2017 in Brussels. For this reason, StartUp Europe Awards is “The Eurovision for Startups”.

Job Today, la app que conecta empresas y candidatos y que ha revolucionado la forma de encontrar empleo a través de la tecnología móvil, ha sido seleccionada como finalista para competir en los Startup Europe Awards (SEUA).
Los SEUA, una iniciativa promovida por la Comisión Europea e implementada por Finnova en colaboración con StartUp Europe, tienen como objetivo reconocer las mejores StartUps europeas. Los premios, que se entregarán el próximo marzo, se dividen en 10 categorías según el ámbito de actuación de cada start-up.
