NEXT GENERATION INTERNET: FACILITATING FUNDING FOR THE INTERNET OF TOMORROW.

The Next Generation Internet (NGI) is an initiative composed of a group of individuals devoted to creating a human-centric internet. They do so through a research and innovation programme that attracts top talent by offering funding opportunities for small and agile projects. NGI deals with a vast array of topics and grants made for projects have included support for Blockchain, Safer Search, Open Source Privacy, Privacy Innovation Commercialisation, Data Portability, Self-Sovereign Identity, Architects to change the Fabric of the Internet, Policy in Practice and EU-US Collaboration.

 

NGI equity-free funding offers innovators such as SMEs and start-ups an opportunity to develop their innovative solutions. Each project receives an NGI grant typically worth between €50,000 and €200,000. In addition, the NGI initiative makes bridging opportunities facilitating inter-organizational networks, collaborations and the flow of knowledge and resources across organisations.

NGI has held seven open calls resulting in 104 projects. There will be three more bi-monthly calls in 2020. To stay updated on them and learn more about NGI, visit the NGI website.
