GLOBAL HACK RESULTS

On the 8th-10th April 2020, Startup Europe and the European Commission in conjunction with Garage48, AccelerateEstona, Guaana, Latitude59, Mooncascade and Brand Manual virtually hosted The Global Hack, a global hackathon aimed at finding solutions to combat the COVID-19 crisis.

In an incredible show of solidarity, more than 12,000 participants from more than 100 countries took part in the 48-hour hackathon. With the support of 850 mentors, 1,033 ideas resulted in 850 viable projects being born.

With €60,000 to be won, winners of the hackathon include SunCrafter, a disinfectant device powered by solar power, Act On Crisis, a project offering emotional support and Material Mapper, an AI-powered tool used to organise reuse of materials from demolished building sites.

While the hackathon generated a large number of innovative solutions, it is imperative that the teams continue to get support to as to convert these ideas into viable businesses capable of alleviating some of the strain caused by the COVID-19 crisis.
